PAMOJA SENEGAL

PAMOJA SenegalThe Republic of Senegal is a country south of the Sénégal River in western Africa. Senegal is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south.

Traditional literacy approaches in Senegal were thriving on the production of primers and did nothing to assist the process of establishment of Reflect. The state was no longer promoting literacy programmes and problems related to funding arose, slowing down progress with Reflect.
However, when Mahamadou Diarra, the then sub-regional Reflect Coordinator was asked to join a World Bank mission to evaluate the national literacy programme in Senegal in, an excellent opportunity was realized, to share experiences and as a result of this work, the Senegalese government has sent people to study Reflect in Mali and Ghana

After several meetings and debates, Senegal has settled its network and the functioning structures. ActionAid Senegal played the role of facilitator and financial partner. Aide et Action got actively involved in this networking and started to organize some Reflect circles. This network was key in the organization of the sub-regional meeting held in Kaolak in November 2004.

Training took place in M’Bour in December 2005. This training targeted 12 new facilitators, with the intention to increase the number of Reflect circles this year. The training was supported by the sub-regional coordinator.

The representative of Senegal, Mor DIAKHATE has been proposed to act as the focal person for the sub-regional Pamoja until the restructuring process is completed.
