PAMOJA ZIMBABWE

The status of Reflect in Zimbabwe is quite unsure at the moment as the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture have closed down the department that was handling the Reflect project. Key officials who were involved with the pilot have been retrenched and this has had a devastating impact. The national Reflect steering committee has been dismantled and ALOZ (The Adult Literacy Organisation of Zimbabwe) has a new director after Albert Maphosa, our key contact, left. It is difficult to determine to what extent Reflect circles are still meeting and functioning at this stage.

However, Patrick Nganzi (from ActionAid-Uganda) has recently arrived in Zimbabwe to look specifically at how community participation in HIV/AIDS programmes can be enhanced. It is likely that Reflect will be adapted to support this work - with a focus on how communities can cope/deal positively with HIV/AIDS.
